Based on a children’s book called Pete and Pickles by Berkeley Breathed, this is a story about Hitpig (Jason Sudeikis), a pig bounty hunter who returns escaped animals to their owners. At first glance, the title doesn’t make sense, the pig doesn’t kill anyone like a hitman. It should probably be called something like PETE THE BOUNTY HUNTER or just PETE AND PICKLES. It’s literally called Hitpig. As he moves along, he meets Pickles (Lilly Singh) the elephant who escaped from the sneaky arrogant Leapin’ Lord of the Leotard (Rainn Wilson). The two form a bond that makes Hitpig question his career and his life. This movie is good. I can tell it wasn’t made with me in mind. The humor is everywhere, sometimes aimed low for kids, sometimes aimed a little higher. Lots of butt jokes. The story moves a mile a minute, sometimes literally, not letting you breathe. The characters all talk fast, I loved hearing Hannah Gadsby as a sassy koala. The movie feels low budget and I’m actually surprised it made it to theaters. There are a couple of pretty good scenes about the family you choose. HITPIG! It’s a good movie, I guess, but it’s quickly forgotten and not worth the money unless you have a young child with ADHD who loves loud noises and bright colors.
